Coach is maybe the most famous and recognizable brand names in handbags in the United States. The company that began in a loft in New York City in 1941 has grown to a multi-billion dollar empire. The company became known for its quality leather handbag and accessories and originally was known as a bag that would last forever. The company has a lifetime policy that they will repair any item for the price of shipping it back to the company. They strive to only use the finest quality leather goods that are available.
The original designer was an American by the name of Bonnie Cashin and she was brought on board in 1962 after the company waited until she was free to join the company. She really brought a line of handbags that were bold in color and styles. She decided that the industry as a whole was boring and needed something new and her new bags became known as the, "Cashin Carry" designs because they had wide openings and many outside pockets. She was the first women to match the color of all her handbags to the accessories of wallets and key chains. The iconic brass toggle which is used in most of there designs was inspired by the 60's tie down buckles on convertible cars.
The Coach company has been able to sell items in the medium to high price luxury market and most refer to there items as, "Affordable Luxury". The company has been able to stay very profitable because unlike most designer brands they have longer runs with there new lines. Most brands have very short seasons and always need to come up with the newest and greatest designs.
Coach has built a American company that is an icon of our society today.
